The vast majority of Americans agree with us. We're doing everything that we can. We're advertising, right now we're on television with an advertisement running in the Washington area. We've got newspaper ads.

The Tec-9 should jog all of our memories here in San Francisco because it was 11 years ago next Thursday that a man named Gian Luigi Ferri walked into that law firm at 101 California Street and shot 14 people - killing eight of them - in a matter of moments. Then he shot himself.

The NRA's rhetoric about jackbooted federal thugs coming to enforce the gun laws helped inspire, frankly, lunatics like Timothy McVeigh - which is why President George Herbert Walker Bush resigned his membership in the NRA. The NRA's leadership is, in fact, a clear and present danger to the safety of the rest of us in the United States.

The Moms have a huge RV, the Big Pink Rig, and they're going from state to state, city to city, across the country. We're holding press conferences with police chiefs and sheriffs and mayors, to call upon members of Congress to do the right thing and renew the ban. It's sort of Paul Revere, in pink.

Some of those laws took years to get passed, like the Brady law eight years with Jim and Sarah Brady fighting to get Congress to pass the law over vehement opposition of the NRA. Many laws we would like to see on the books are ones that every other civilized country in the world has, things I've been talking about.

Reputable gun dealers don't need immunity, and reckless gun dealers like Bull's Eye or this dealer in West Virginia don't deserve immunity. Reputable gun owners don't think a background check is a bad idea; they are happy to make sure the people they are selling to are not prohibited. They don't find the assault weapons ban stifling.

One of the things we do at the Brady Center is we're trying to reform the gun industry through litigation. We have a small law firm in our office of eight or ten lawyers who are suing gun companies, trying to get them to change the product they make and change the way they do business.
